📖 Starting A New Chapter…

If you didn’t know, I recently graduated with my BBA in Entrepreneurship and felt relieved – that is, UNTIL I started applying to grad school. Yep, I’m officially going for my Master’s degree sometime next year (hopefully Spring 2025🤞)! You might be wondering why I am not taking a longer break after four years of schooling. Well…this is my break. Kinda. I honestly only want to take one semester off because if I waited until the Fall, I probably wouldn’t go back unless I have a guaranteed spot.

While a degree in Brand Management/Marketing isn’t crucial for me, I will say that the networking and career opportunities are worth it. AND I will most likely stay in NYC, but I’ve decided to apply to ONE school abroad. Where? I don’t even know. Haven’t decided yet. But hey, it’s for the plot.

I’m currently working on personal statements (and I’ve been writing a lot about this podcast!!) and trying not to stress too much. It’s challenging trying to balance everything from applying to part-time jobs to networking to attending webinars, all while maintaining current responsibilities.

Sometimes, I want to give up and hide under a rock like Patrick Star lol. But I’ve come this far, so why stop now? However, I fear I have girl bossed a little too hard though :/// If you have any advice, feel free to reach out via my socials or reply to this email!

What’s The Trend This Month?

I’m excited to share the things I’m loving this month! This year's fashion has brought back so many nostalgic moments with its 80s and 90s vibes. With the Summer Olympics, I’m loving all the retro 80s and 90s style sweatshirts and Olympic gear, including nods to past Olympics—think oversized anoraks, sweatshirts, vintage graphics, and muted, heathered colors.

This trend has also carried over into other athletic wear. I’m particularly fond of early 90s style t-shirts, especially those featuring my WNBA heroes. Retro tracksuits and bomber jackets are also making a comeback.

I’ll link a few of my favorites below. Go Team USA!

🛍️ Is Shopping Your Closet the Newest Tall Fashion Trend?

Lately, I’ve been noticing a trend on my feed where tall fashion creators are “shopping their closets” where they show outfits that come straight from their closets, instead of buying new.

@fabfashionfortallgirls on Instagram

@fabfashionfortallgirls on Instagram

I find this interesting because it kind of correlates with the idea of sustainable fashion in the tall girl community, which are highlighted by brands like Whitney Allysyn and creators like Corinna

To be honest, I sometimes struggle with the idea of shopping my closet. As someone who had multiple growth spurts in my life, my parents and I had to constantly buy clothes every single season to ensure that I have clothes that are the right size. And even though I’ve stopped growing, I still have the urge to buy new clothes every single season.

Who knew something as simple as this could affect my spending decisions as an adult??

But with the price of EVERY SINGLE thing going up it’s now becoming more common that people are finding ways to make do with what they have in order to spend less money. This mindset shift is leading many TikTok creators to practice ‘underconsumption core’, or romanticizing underconsumption.

 In the age of influencers and social media, we are constantly tempted to spend our money on things that we don’t need and sometimes can’t even afford. We live this life of maximalism and hoarding by purchasing products that we use once and then never use again.

BUT now there are creators who are talking about combatting that with underconsumption

What does this mean? Tactics such as minimalism. “No spend” weeks. And shopping your closet.

Speaking of which, how can you shop your closet?

Accessorize: Use accessories to make the same outfit look new. A chunky necklace or a blazer can transform a basic look. (Shoutout to 6footabae who’s a pro at this!)

DIY: Now, I’m no DIY-er lol, BUT there are times where I have turned something old into something new. Like I had a t-shirt dress that became too short, so I decided to turn it into a crop top that I still wear to this day. And I’ve had it since sixth grade!

Got more tips? Shoot me a DM on Instagram! Maybe I’ll do an episode on this….

💬 Quote of the Month

“Are you a victim or a volunteer?”

I came across a thought-provoking TikTok about dealing with narcissistic people, which resonated with me. The creator asked “are you a victim or a volunteer?”

I don’t quite remember if she was referring to the narcissist or the person who is involved with the narcissist, but essentially the message was if you willingly put yourself in situations that are not ultimately good for you and complain about being hurt, you are a volunteer. Not a victim. It’s a reminder that history repeats itself unless we make a change.

If this resonates with you, I guess this was meant to find you 🙂
